We all agree the best part of last night’s Academy Awards Ceremony was this, right? Now, that’s entertainment!
As for the actual awards, I was happy for Natalie and Colin (who in my book can do no wrong). The King’s Speech was a phenomenal movie (heartfelt, witty, dramatic) and very deserving of Best Picture, in my (humble) opinion. I thought Anne Hathaway was sweet and funny as host. And her dress changes–my favorites were the Lanvin tux with Brian Atwood pumps, sorta Annie Hall-esque and the gold, fringey Oscar de la Renta dress with perfectly styled hair and makeup–bumped it up a notch.
Although James Franco is certainly eye candy, I found his hosting skills to be a bit lacking.
Now, to the red carpet! Overall, a good year for Oscar fashion. My top four favorites, also happen to showcase some of the trends the ladies showcased. They are:
I loved this entire look. Jennifer Lawrence’s red Calvin Klein was understated, incredibly sexy, and sleek. Her soft blond waves and glamourous makeup lent a very “Old Hollywood” vibe to the look. Love love loved it! Other ladies in red, and orange, really (cue Chris de Burgh)…
Mandy Moore looked gorgeous, sophisticated, and chic in this nude Monique Lhuillier complimented with simple hair and makeup (other than the bright lips. Love how she lets the dress speak for itself. Other women in the nude (hee, hee…):
SHADES OF PURPLE
Mila Kunis was craaazy in Black Swan. But she looked absolutely stunning and feminine in this lilac Elie Saab dress. Beautiful lace detailing and draping and sophisticated hair and makeup.
Other ladies proving they were no shrinking violets:
Oscar wasn’t the only one shining last night. Gwyneth Paltrow looked her modern, chic self in a shimmering Calvin Klein dress.
Other golden (and silver) girls included:
And with shout outs given to both Tom Ford and the Rodarte sisters (who designed the costumes for Black Swan), it was a lovely night for fashion.
What were your favorites? Do you disagree with any of mine? Let’s discuss!
